Laboratory 6S Management
6S refers to the activities of continuously improving the status of various operating elements (mainly material elements) in experiments, training, offices, and production sites (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke, and Safety).
6S is to effectively manage the production factors such as personnel, machines, materials, methods, etc. at the work site, put forward requirements for the daily work behavior of each employee in the company, advocate starting from small things, and strive to make every employee develop the habit of being "particular" in everything, so as to achieve the goal of improving the overall work quality.
Seiri:
Definition: Distinguish what is needed from what is not needed, place only the necessary items in the right amount at the post, and leave everything else out.
Purpose: Free up space and prevent misuse.
Seiton:
Definition: To organize the order on site, locate and mark the things needed (and keep them in a state where they can be taken out immediately when needed), which is the basis for improving efficiency.
Purpose: To free up time, reduce searching time, and create an orderly working order.
Seiso:
Definition: Keep the workstation clean and tidy, maintain the equipment in good condition, and create a spotless environment. Purpose: Eliminate "dirt" and keep the site clean and bright.
Seiketsu:
Definition: Also known as standardization, carry out the first 3S to the end, and standardize and institutionalize.
Purpose: Form systems and practices to maintain the results of the first 3S.
Shitsuke:
Definition: Establish and form good habits and awareness, and fundamentally improve the quality of personnel. Purpose: Improve employee cultivation, cultivate good quality, enhance team spirit, and achieve self-regulation of employees.
Safety:
Definition: Everyone has safety awareness and everyone works according to safety operating procedures. Purpose: To highlight safety hazards and reduce personal injury and economic losses.
Seiri:
Purpose: Free up space to prevent misuse.
Implementation points:
1. Remove garbage or useless and dispensable items;
2. Clarify the purpose, usage and frequency of use of each item and classify them;
3. Clean up the items on site according to the above classification, keep only the necessary items on site, and clean up the garbage and useless items.
Distinguish between what is needed and what is not needed:
According to the frequency of use of items, they are divided into four categories:
1. Those that are no longer used. Get rid of them unswervingly;
2. Those that are used very rarely. Put them in the warehouse, mark them and keep them properly;
3. Those that are used less frequently. Put them around you, such as in a cabinet or tool cabinet;
4. Those that are used frequently. Keep them in the workplace. Key points: Comprehensive inspection, including visible and invisible items; formulate judgment criteria for what is needed and what is not needed; completely remove what is not needed; investigate the frequency of use of what is needed and determine the daily usage; self-inspection every day.
Seiton:
Purpose: Free up time and reduce searching time.
Implementation points:
1. Rationally plan space and places on the basis of sorting;
2. Arrange according to the plan so that each item is in its proper place;
3. Make necessary signs so that everyone can understand clearly.
Essentials:
1. Three principles: fixed point, fixed volume, and fixed quantity;
2. Stand in the position of newcomers to clearly define the place where the items are placed, and find the desired items within "30 seconds"; at the same time, it is easy to reset after use, and it can be known within "60 seconds" if it is not reset or misplaced.
Steps to carry out: Clearly define the place where the items are needed; divide the area according to the attributes of the items; the division of the area must be combined with the actual work situation, and should not be too innovative. Incompatible items must be placed in different areas. Compatible items can be placed in the same area but must be clearly marked to avoid misplacing.
Example: 1. Samples should be placed in the waiting area and the inspected area according to the quality of the samples; the inspected area is divided into the qualified area and the unqualified area;
2. Pharmaceutical reagents are classified and stacked according to their chemical properties, and all pharmaceutical reagents are labeled in accordance with the actual situation; the storage of hazardous chemicals must comply with relevant regulations;
3. Items, documents, materials, etc. in the filing cabinet should be classified and positioned neatly, with clear signs for easy search;
4. Place neatly and orderly; place in categories, with appropriate area size and a certain amount of safety space or maintenance space; the placement of items is determined by the frequency of use of the items; placement can be carried out with the help of media such as the ground, tool cabinets, shelves, and walls; the placement should pay attention to the first-in-first-out principle and the principle of matching accounts and cards.
5. Special items should be placed in a conspicuous location;
6. Dangerous goods should have protective measures, which are not easy for personnel to contact, and the loss should be as small as possible after problems occur.
Seiso:
Purpose: Eliminate "dirt" and keep the site clean and bright.
Implementation points:
1. On the basis of sorting and reorganizing, clean the site, equipment, and items to form a clean working environment;
2. The top leader takes responsibility; everyone participates, and the cleaning area is responsible for each person, leaving no dead corners;
3. Items used by oneself, such as equipment, tools, etc., should be cleaned by yourself, instead of relying on others, and no special cleaners should be added;
4. For the cleaning of equipment, focus on the maintenance of equipment. Cleaning equipment should be combined with equipment inspection, and cleaning is inspection; cleaning equipment should also be lubricated at the same time, and cleaning is also maintenance;
5. Cleaning is also for improvement. When flying debris and oil and water leakage are found when cleaning the ground, the cause should be found out and measures should be taken to improve it.
Seiketsu:
Purpose: Institutionalization to maintain the results of the first 3S.
Implementation points:
1. Continuously organize, reorganize, and clean, and thoroughly implement the above 3S;
2. The working environment should not only be neat, but also clean and hygienic to ensure the health of workers and improve their enthusiasm for work;
3. Not only should the items be clean, but the workers themselves should also be clean, such as clean work clothes, neat appearance, timely haircut, shaving, manicure, bathing, etc.;
4. Workers should not only be physically clean, but also mentally "clean", be polite and respectful to others;
5. To keep the environment free from pollution, further eliminate turbid air, dust, noise and pollution sources, and eliminate occupational diseases.
Shitsuke:
Purpose: To improve employees' self-cultivation and realize their self-regulation
Implementation points:
1. Continue to promote the above 4S until it becomes a habit;
2. Formulate corresponding rules and regulations;
3. Through education, training and motivation, transform external management requirements into employees' own habits and consciousness, so that the above activities become conscious actions.
Safety:
Purpose: Reduce the possibility of safety accidents to zero.
Implementation points:
1. Establish a systematic safety management system;
2. Pay attention to employee training and education;
3. Carry out on-site inspections to eliminate hidden dangers;
4. Create a bright, orderly and safe working environment.
