How to deal with hydrofluoric acid?

Hydrofluoric acid is an aqueous solution of hydrogen fluoride. It is extremely corrosive and has a wide range of uses in industry, but it is also an extremely dangerous "invisible killer."

Fluoride ions can rapidly penetrate the body through the skin and mucous membranes. They rob the blood of calcium and magnesium ions, causing hypocalcemia and hypomagnesemia, leading to arrhythmias, organ failure, and even cardiac arrest. Even small contact areas can be fatal within hours if not treated promptly.

If you come into contact with hydrofluoric acid, immediate, scientific first aid is crucial:

Skin contact: Immediately remove contaminated clothing and flush with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. After rinsing, apply 2.5% calcium gluconate gel and gently massage. Seek medical attention immediately.

Eye contact: Immediately flush with water or saline for at least 15 minutes and seek medical attention.

Inhalation of vapor: Move quickly to fresh air, maintain easy breathing, and seek medical attention immediately.

Important: Flushing with water only removes surface residue and cannot neutralize toxins that have penetrated tissues. Therefore, immediate medical attention is essential, and detoxification treatment with calcium injections or other methods is essential.
