There are many types of waste liquid in the laboratory, with complex components, and it is difficult to handle it uniformly. For convenience, laboratory partners pour it directly into the sewer. This method is indeed simple and quick, but is it really correct? The waste liquid generated by the experiment is not domestic water, but some heavy metals, strong acids and alkalis and other harmful substances. If it is not properly handled, the consequences will be disastrous!
Various strong acids, strong alkalis, organic solutions, etc. generated during experimental operations;
Waste liquid generated when cleaning various experimental tools and equipment (various glass containers, injection bottles, sample preparation equipment, etc.);
Waste liquid generated by equipment cooling devices (such as various distillation cooling devices, instrument equipment cooling devices, etc.).
These waste liquids should be treated in different ways according to their properties and components. Some waste liquids can be recycled for useful substances, some can be directly discharged to the external drainage network, and some can be treated by appropriate methods and then discharged to the external network.
2.Wastewater treatment principles
High-concentration waste acid and waste alkali liquids should be discharged after being neutralized to neutrality. High-concentration organic solvents containing a small amount of analytes and other reagents should be recycled and reused.
High-concentration waste liquids for recycling should be stored centrally for recycling; low-concentration waste liquids should be discharged after treatment, and the storage container and storage conditions should be determined according to the properties of the waste liquid. Different waste liquids are generally not allowed to be mixed, and should be kept away from light and heat sources to avoid adverse chemical reactions.
Waste liquid storage containers must be labeled with the type, storage time, etc.
Treatment methods for waste liquids containing different chemical substances: Waste liquids containing mercury, chromium, lead, cadmium, arsenic, phenol and cyanide must be treated to meet the standards before they can be discharged.
Scientific classification
Hazardous wastes must not be mixed with domestic waste and other general wastes. Hazardous wastes must be collected and classified according to the nature of the chemicals and the degree of hazard, and stored in special waste liquid barrels. Hazardous wastes of different categories or those that may cause abnormal reactions must not be mixed; laboratory waste liquids can generally be divided into organic waste liquids, inorganic waste liquids, waste acid liquids, waste alkali liquids, etc.
Safety collection
The process of waste liquid generation and collection should be as closed as possible to prevent secondary pollution of the waste liquid. The safe container for holding the waste liquid should be compatible with the waste liquid components and no chemical reaction
should occur. 20% of the space must be reserved in the barrel during storage. Certain anti-overflow measures should also be taken for waste liquid barrels.
Safety identification
Hazardous waste labels must be affixed to waste liquid barrels and corresponding records must be kept. Hazardous waste labels should comply with the requirements of "GB 18597 Hazardous Waste Storage Pollution Control Standard", with black font and orange background.
