What is EN14470-1?

EN14470-1:2004 was prepared by Technical Committee CEN/TC332 "Laboratory Equipment" and approved by the European Standards Committee. The standard sets out requirements for the structure, resistance to external fires, and fire performance of fire safety cabinets used in laboratories to store flammable liquids. It clarifies the fire protection grade and fire test requirements. It is currently one of the important standards in the field of fire safety cabinets in the world.

According to the time when the temperature rises no more than 180K in the fire test, the cabinets are divided into 15-minute cabinets, 30-minute cabinets, 60-minute cabinets and 90-minute cabinets. It must pass real fire testing to comply with the standard.

If a fire occurs, the fireproof cabinet should ensure that the contents of the cabinet do not cause any additional fire risk for at least 15 minutes. There are also detailed requirements for cabinet doors, that is, the cabinet door should be able to close completely automatically from any position within 20 seconds from the time the cabinet door is released.

The fireproof cabinet must be actually placed in a suitable furnace for a combustion test, and the temperature rise curve must be controlled within the range specified by EN1361-1.
